Miracle Mead


I have never had Mead. I wonder what it tastes like. The sugar should at least partially disappear in the fermentation. Wonder what it is like?

While the notion of mead still makes some drinkers want to reach for a horned helmet and oversized turkey leg, the latest consumers of the honey-sweetened fermented drink aren’t Vikings: They’re locavores.

Beekeepers in western North Carolina, seeking a surefire way to unload their surplus product, have wisely turned to booze. Although apiarians like the couple behind Sweet Betty Bee’s in eastern Buncombe County are still selling jars and jugs of their unfiltered, pesticide-free honey at tailgate markets, they’ve started spending much of their time away from the hives, formulating the perfect recipe for homegrown mead.
